Holiday let plans for annexe building in Wetheral area | News and Star

PLANS have been lodged to convert the annexe building on a property near Wetheral into a holiday let.

Carlisle City Council has received an application to convert a domestic annexe building at Hillcrest, Newby West into a holiday let.

The proposal in the Wetheral area will be given special scrutiny by councillors when discussed at the planning panel as it will involve works near to a listed building.

Although not structural, works will be necessary to prepare the annexe for guests.

In supporting statements submitted to Carlisle City Council, the agent – Plan B Building Drawing Ltd – said that the works involve: “Secure external door / window system.

“Energy efficient systems in wood grain upvc matching the main house, the door systems will be manufactured to comply with secured by design to afford resistance to burglary.

“Newly refurbished accommodation - All work compliant with current Building Regulations. - Provision of Services

“Water and electric services will be run from the main house all compliant with Building Regulations, Electric storage heating is provided.”

On the building’s original use, they said: “Brick built with slate roof we assume it was originally used for agricultural storage with signs the North East end was possibly a bier.

“The proposal is for the annex to be offered as holiday let accommodation suitable for one family or possibly 2 couples.”

They said that the “small scale” proposal is for a single family who are looking for a “private and comfortable place to stay that is sympathetic to the origins of the area and the building’s former use.”

The applicant and agent believe the proposal “will make valuable use of the building, providing accommodation for visitors who will experience and support our tourist facilities as well as supporting our local economy.

The public can view and comment on all applications submitted to Carlisle City Council for approval.
