Police officers led by Insp Ramkissoon on the scene of the murder at corner of Sawmill Trace and Old Valencia Road.
Police were called out on Saturday after a body with gunshot wounds was seen lying in a pool of blood at the corner of Sawmill Trace and Old Valencia Road.
Around 6:45 am, police officers from Sangre Grande and Valencia responded to the report.
Police officers led by Insp Ramkissoon and including WCpl Rique, PC Samuel, CSI officers PC Ali and WPC Portel along with Sgt Davis, Cpl Ramdial and WPC Mohammed of Arouca Homicide Bureau Region 2 went to the scene.
On arrival, they found the body of a man of African descent dressed in a black jersey, black pants and a pair of black slippers. There were several gunshot wounds to the head. The deceased could be in his late 30s. The body remained unidentified up to late Saturday.
The scene was processed by homicide officers, who found three spent shells.
Police said the killing could have taken place about two hours before the body was discovered.
District Medical Officer Dr Belgrave viewed the body and ordered it be removed to the Sangre Grande mortuary, from where it will be taken to the Forensic Science Centre tomorrow for an autopsy.
Homicide officers attached to Arouca Homicide Bureau Region 2 are continuing the investigation.
This is the second unidentified body to be found with gunshot wounds in the Eastern Division.
On Friday morning the body of a man of African descent was found with what appears to be gunshot wounds at Jamun Trace, Madoosingh Drive, Ojoe Road, Sangre Grande.
His body was seen lying across a curb and slipper drain about five feet from a white Hyundai Accent registration PDJ 2774.
Police reports stated that the vehicle was a rental from San Fernando. The body was viewed by District Medical Officer Dr Trim and ordered to be removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for an autopsy.
Visiting the scene were Asp Revnales, Ag Sgt Mohammed, Ag Cpl Osuna, PCs Ramdath, Rajkumar, Thomas, Ramdhanie, WPCs Castillo and Baptiste.
Police are calling on members of the public to assist them in identifying the bodies.
