On Sunday, April 24, at 4 p.m., at the Rockport Opera House, the Rockport Conservation Commission, along with movie sponsor Maine Conservation Voters, present a free community screening of The Story of Plastic, a feature-length documentary, followed by a panel discussion with local environmentalists moderated by State Rep. Vicki Doudera, Maine State Lead for the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators.

“The Story of Plastic is a seething expose uncovering the ugly truth behind the current global plastic pollution crisis,” according to Doudera, in a news release. “Striking footage shot over three continents illustrates the ongoing catastrophe: fields full of garbage, veritable mountains of trash; rivers and seas clogged with waste; and skies choked with the poisonous runoff from plastic production and recycling processes with no end in sight.”

Following the film a panel of experts will discuss ways people can all take action toward a future without plastic pollution.

The panel will answer questions posed by the audience and moderated by Rep. Vicki Doudera. Included in the panel will be Rockport’s Matt Prindiville, Chief Solutioneer and CEO of Upstream, a nonprofit sparking innovative solutions to plastic pollution; William Bow, a retired environmental consultant and member of the Rockport Conservation Commission; and Kathleen Meil, Director of Policy & Partnerships for Maine Conservation Voters.

Young environmental activists are encouraged to attend, according to the release, and the Camden Rockport Middle School Environmental Club will be present and selling earth friendly beeswax wrappers.

“Honor Earth Week with a film that promises to challenge and prompt us to action,” said Doudera.
