CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville High softball played Daniel Boone High during the opening round of the state tournament on Tuesday. In the end, the Wildcats’ offensive explosion hoisted them to a 9-4 victory.

Clarksville High came out with an aggressive approach at the plate. After two quick outs in the first inning, five batters found their way onto the base paths. This included players reaching on three singles, a double and a walk. The Wildcats led 2-0.

The team found more separation in the third inning. They scored three additional insurance runs due to a walk, single and a number of defensive miscues by the opposition. By the end of the game, the Wildcats produced nine runs total.

“Rhythm is such an important part of offensive flow, and the team really found theirs tonight,” said Clarksville High head coach Brian Rush. “Each success helped facilitate the next. There’s a saying that hitting is contagious, and that seemed to be in play tonight.”

Clarksville was sound defensively as well, and it all started with their pitching. Emberly Nichols held Daniel Boone High in check throughout the night. She threw for a complete game despite allowing four runs to score in the latter half of the game. Nichols finished the game with 7 innings pitched, 9 strikeouts, 3 earned run, 4 hits and 4 walks.

According to the TSSAA, Clarksville High is set to face Wilson Central on Wednesday. The game will begin at 11:30 a.m. as the Wildcats look to win back-to-back games in the state tournament.
